For the past few months I’ve been learning Illustration - mostly through Skillshare, but also via YouTube. It’s fun + frustrating + humbling.

Sometimes I just want to draw, but don’t know how/where to start, so I came up with my own little prompt. Thought I’d share in case you’re in the mood to mess around on your iPad, but your Covid brain just can’t.

Set up a Square, Quad Assisted Drawing Canvas
+ New Canvas
Square Size (I use 3K by 3K)
Then, Wrench, Canvas, Toggle On Drawing Guide, Edit Drawing Guide
Symmetry, Options, Quadrant, Done

  • Use The Monoline Brush To Create Dots That Represent Where Your Elements Will Go

  • Use New Layers To Add Each Element And Adjust Placement

  • Hide Dots Layer + Add Fill Layer To Test Colors

  • Use Half-Drop Or Quadrant Methods To Create Pattern

  • If Needed, Add A Paper Or Fabric Texture Layer Over Everything
